Eligibility:  The position is for candidates currently enrolled at a Canadian University program, or have recently graduated from a recognized degree-granting University, and are legally entitled to work in Canada.

Language Requirement:  English proficiency, French and/or knowledge of other languages is an asset

Workplace Environment, Required Position Attributes and Skills

The Research Assistant will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, contribute to Samuel Associates client projects and complete original research.  They will have access to the Samuel Group of Companies' network, and work alongside our Staff and Senior Associates, and benefit from their career experience and mentorship.

You will contribute to Samuel Associates' client research and participate in the firm's activities and client-related initiatives.

The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced business environment, requiring the Intern to be proactive, resourceful, and efficient while at the same time maintaining a high level of professionalism and discretion. Likewise, the Intern must be capable of prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Strong oral and written communication skills are expected from the Intern.

The candidate must possess integrity, display a positive attitude and be comfortable working both independently and in a team environment.

The candidate must be able to take the initiative and use judgement in respectfully dealing with a variety of individuals, companies, government officials and institutions.

Essential skills for the position require the Research Assistant to be able to use Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook effectively and efficiently. Knowledge of Government of Canada databases such as GEDS, GC InfoBase and Buy and sell Canada is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate's responsibilities will vary, but could include:

  • Assist the Executive Management Team, and Senior Associates in performing various tasks and client projects
  • Undertaking internal and/or external data collection, research activities, and analyzing the assembled information
  • Preparing reports, presentation decks, e-mails, and other corroborating documents
  • Assisting with preparing and writing public communication pieces such as information packages and blog posts.
  • Act as a Lead Research Assistant for client projects.
  • Work under the direction and guidance of a Relationship Manager, alongside the File Lead, Client Manager, Contributing Associates, and Subject Matter Experts.
  • Provide advice and feedback to the File Lead and Client Manager when and as required.
  • Participate in scheduled conference calls to review project progress and offer options or suggestions as required.

Other typical responsibilities include:

  • analysing and interpreting data
  • advising on policy issues
  • keeping up to date with legislation, upcoming debates and bills
  • responding to enquiries from public and private sector organizations
  • writing blogs, social media postings, and business correspondence
  • keeping records and tracking various client-related projects

Standard Work Week

We require the Research Assistant to be available from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (EST).
